What is an electrical storm?

Electrical storms are violent thunderstorms which are formed by electrical conditions in the atmosphere

When do they occur?

They occur when thunder storms collide together. This occurs 16 million times a year around the world.

Where do they occur?

They occur usually in tropical climates. They can also occur over the ocean when there is a tropical storm present.

Why do they occur?

They occur when static electricity builds up in the atmosphere. This will happen when there are dry conditions, and the result is the discharge of lightning.

Effects On The Weather System

How does it effect people?

A person stands a greater chance of getting struck by lightning if they are holding a metal object. It is also not a good idea to stand under a tree during a lightening storm.

How does it effect the Environment?

Lightening can be a very dangerous occurrence. It can kill people, destroy homes and even cause forest fires. These fires can kill wildlife and destroy their habitat for many years.

How does effect animals?

Lightening storms have the ability to cause forest fires which can kill wild animals. Lightening also can effect pets, the loud sound of lightning makes many pets nervous and frightened.

Story 1

Once there was a electrical storm going on. A woman who was watching the storm had metal in her backyard. The lightening hit the metal and then her. She was not killed but she was left blinded by the lightening.

Story 2

A man was siting on his couch watching his T.V. during an electrical storm. While he was watching T.V., his window was open and lightning struck his cable and then him. Nothing happened to him,no injuries he only had a headache. He said it was a miracle that he didn't die.

Story 3

On one occasion, an electrical storm struck and a thunderbolt hit a power pole. The pole fell over and destroyed over 50 houses and killed over 100 people. This was one of the most fierce electrical storms ever in California.

Poverty Theme Example 1.

Sever weather can effect poverty stricken areas especially hard. People that live in poverty do not always have proper shelter to protect themselves from storms.

Poverty Theme Example 2.

People that live in poverty often rely on the land for their food supply. Electrical storms can cause terrible fires that destroy wildlife and crops. Without these sources of food, people living in poverty will have a difficult time feeding their families.
