  • Both can be very complex to learn
  • Both reflect values and culture

DIFFERENCES

MANDARIN

  • There is a max of 2 vowels per syllable.
  • The meaning of each word depends on tone marks
  • Each part of a character has its own meaning (sometimes different)
  • It has rules to writing words in Pin Yin
  • Emotion isn't present in delivery because tone marks will be affected

ENGLISH

  • Words can have more than two vowels
  • The meaning of words don't necessarily depend on tone marks
  • Some words have root words and some don't
  • Rules in writing aren't applicable, but spelling is.
  • Emotion is always present in delivery.
