ROANOKE

The colony was lead by Sir Walter Raleigh who was a good friend of Queen Elizabeth and used her to profit the expedition. (food, ships, tools, etc.)

The first english baby, Virginia Dare was born a little before John White left for England. He was also the grandfather to the newborn.

They tried twice to build a colony there but the first (100 men) was abandoned and the second (117 men) was lost. They are also known as The Lost Colony of Roanoke.

JAMESTOWN

It all started with King James. He ordered his servants to make a new settlement named after himself.

The all famous Pocahontas story took place at this time. The story was Captain Argall captured Pocahontas, bringing her to Jamestown as a prisoner. While being held as a captive at Jamestown, John Rolfe and Pocahontas fall in love and they get married. After the marriage, fighting with the Powhatan tribe stopped. The settlers were able to grow more tobacco and send the goods back to England.
