DEFINITION

  • Asthma is a condition that affects your breathing.
  • It usually occurs when your air passages are sensitive.
  • In an asthma attack, your airways swell up.
  • This disease makes breathing very difficult.

SYMPTOMS & CAUSE

  • Tightness in lungs, inflamation, trouble
  • breathing, wheezing, and coughing
  • You can get it from your genes OR by
  • the environment (air quality)

TREATMENT & SYSTEMS

  • System: Respiratory
  • Patients use inhalers to treat asthma.
  • Peak Flow Meters are used to see how well air flows through your lungs.
  • They must also refrain from intense exercise.
  • Inhalers are filled with medicine to reduce swelling of the bronchi.
