  • 5,000 known species
  • Filters water to get its food
  • 2 layers of cells
  • All different colors

CNIDARIANS

  • Radial symmetry
  • They have tissue instead of organs
  • In the phylum Cnidaria
  • 10,000 known species

WORMS

  • 3 types of worms: round, flat and segmented
  • Segmented worms have 5 hearts
  • Roundworms are microscopic
  • Flatworms look cross eyed close up

MOLLUSKS

  • Some have shells. Others don't
  • Soft, slimy bodies
  • Snails have an organ called a radula
  • Mantles make up their tough skin

ANTHROPODS

  • 3 types of arthropods - Crustaceans, Arachnids, and Insects
  • They all have an exoskeleton
  • Exoskeleton doesn't grow
  • Has digestive system, legs,circulatory system, and a brain

ECHINODERMS

  • Most complex invertebrates
  • All of them live in the ocean
  • Their name means "spiny skin"
  • Doesn't have a brain

VERTEBRATES

FISH

  • 3 types - Bony, Cartilaginous, and Jawless
  • A swim blatter helps it to float
  • Has fins and scales
  • Cold blooded

AMPHIBIANS

  • Webbed feet and no claws
  • 5 life cycle stages
  • Long sticky tongues for catching bugs
  • They hatch in water, then move to land

REPTILES

  • Lay eggs on land
  • Lizards and snakes shed their skin
  • Cold blooded
  • Some have scales and some have plates

BIRDS

  • Some birds don't fly
  • All birds have a beak, wings, and feathers
  • Only animals with feathers
  • Very developed respiratory systems for flying

  • Only animals with hair
  • Most complex vertebrates
  • They have mammary glands
  • Some mammals lay eggs
