TEEN VIOLENCE

STATISTICS

  • 19.9% of teenagers grades 9-12 were reported bullied in 2012.
  • 1,280 youth were arrested for murder in 2008.
  • 56,000 were arrested for aggressive assault in 2008.

CAUSES OF VIOLENCE

  • Abuse at home/ place of living.
  • External influences/ peer pressure.
  • Gangs.
  • Alcohol and drugs
  • Underlining mental disorder.

PREVENTING TEEN VIOLENCE

  • Team up with other parents.
  • Talk to teens about ways to solve arguments.
  • Enforce non-violence at a young age.

WARNING SIGNS

  • Threatening text messages to one another.
  • Forceful behavior to parents/ friends.
  • Physical behavior to another peer.
  • History of discipline problems
  • History of vandalism/ destructive behavior of property.
