SUSAN MAKES AND SELLS PURSES

Susan makes and sells purses. The purses cost her $12 each to make, and she sells them for $25. This Saturday, she is renting a booth at a craft fair for $60. Use this information to answer Items 1-3.

1. Write an equation that can be used to find the number of purses Susan must sell to make a profit.

25x-(60+12x) = 250

2. Solve the equation, and
interpret the solution.
13x - 60 = 250
- 60 -60
(÷13) 13x = 310 (÷13)
x = 24

3. If Susan sells 20 purses at the fair, will she meet her goal? Why or why not?

No, because with 4 extra purses she will make the $310. If you get rid of the 4 purses she would be short $40.
