WHAT IS COMMUNISM

• A political party
• Ideas of Karl Marx
• Based on the idea that capitalism causes suffering
• Equal opportunity for all
• Factories/buissnesses owned by many people vs. 1

IMPORTANT POINTS

• No social classes
• Money DOESN'T equal power
• This system allowed for a powerful government class

KARL MARX

• Known as the "father of communism"
• Wrote the "Communist Manifesto"
• Communism is also known as marxism
• Felt that "capitalism held the seeds for its own destruction"

MARX'S IDEA

• Free lower class from poverty
• Do this by governement control over production
• No one could make more money than anyone else

GREAT DEPRESSION AND COMMUNISM

• Communist used this as proof of marx's theory
• Communist party-- gained more of a following during this time
• Many people where scared of an uprising
• An uprising never happened

COMMUNISM

• Governement had contorl over everything
• No private property
• Attempt at an extreme utopia
• No rights or inheritance
• Government controlled education
