VERTICAL LINES
SLOPE, GRAPH, AND EQUATION

3.
SLOPE
Vertical lines have NO SLOPE.
The concept of slope simply does not work for vertical lines.
The slope doesn't exist!

4.
EQUATION
Remember that vertical lines only have an 'x' value and no 'y' value.
Equation: X = n n- any number
Say we are going through (2,-1). X=2 and n=-1
Final equation: X=2

GRAPH
Plot the graph of the following relation
X=3
(Picture is in the background)
All you have to do is find a point (X)
And draw a vertical line!

Y = B, WHERE B IS THE Y-INTERCEPT.

7.
SLOPE
The slope of a horizontal line is always 0.

8.
GRAPH
To graph a horizontal line that goes through a given point, first plot that point.
Then draw a straight line left and right that goes through the point.
Ex. X=3
(Graph is in background)
9.
EQUATION
Y=n n= any number
Say we were going through (5,3)
Y=3 n=5
Final equation: Y=3

PARALLEL & PERPENDICULAR LINES

PARALLEL LINES
Since slope is a measure of the angle of a line from the horizontal,
And since parallel lines must have the same angle,
Then parallel lines have the same slope —
and lines with the same slope are parallel.

14.
PERPENDICULAR LINES
If you visualize a line with positive slope (so it's an increasing line),
then the perpendicular line must have negative slope (because it will be a decreasing line).
So perpendicular slopes have opposite signs.
The other "opposite" thing with perpendicular slopes is that their values are reciprozcals;
perpendicular slopes have opposite that is, take the one slope value, &flip it upside down.

15.
PERPENDICULAR LINES
Put this together with the sign change,
and you get that the slope of the perpendicular line is the "negative reciprocal"
Put this together of the slope of the original line—and two lines with slopes that are negative reciprocals
of each other are perpendicular to each other.

INVERSE
The inverse of a function has all the same points as the original function,
except that the x's and y's have been reversed.
