WERE A STAPLE FOOD FOR THE LUISEÑOS IN NORTH AMERICA.

GATHERED FOOD THEY STORED THEM IN GRANARIES.

THEY USED A HAMMERSTONE

TO TAKE OFF THE SHELL AND A WINNOWING TRAY TO TAKE OFF THE SKIN.

THE MORTOR AND A PESTLE

WERE USED TO GRIND ACORNS INTO FINE FLOUR CALLED MEAL.

Also they used a process called leaching to remove the tannic acid from the acorn meal to make it edible.

Finally, they cooked the meal in an olla and stirred it with a paddle.
