BY BRADFORD AYLIN AND CARVER KING

This World Series was significant because members of the Chicago White Sox met with gamblers and agreed to throw the game (lose on purpose)

The man in the photo was "Shoeless Joe Jackson". Joe Jackson was a member of the Chicago White Sox, the best player on the team.

The result of the scandal was 8 players from the Chicago White Sox (including Joe Jackson) we're banned from baseball.

This significant to the time period because during this time, gambling was a big deal. This is one of the first events where gambling interfered with a sport.

REDS WON THE SERIES

This event connects with The Great Gatsby because it occurs in the same time period and has similar concepts. Gambling is a big part of Gatsby, and it is huge during the World Series as well.
