Alcoholism-a medical condition in which someone frequently drinks too much alcohol and becomes unable to live a normal and healthy life
CONDITIONS LED FROM HEAVY DRINKING:
- Anemia
- Cancer
- Cardiovascular disease
- Dementia
- Depression
- Nerve damage
- High blood pressure
- Seizures
Facts:
1. Every year in the U.S., roughly 5,000 people under the age of 21 die from an alcohol-related incident including car crashes, homicides, suicides, alcohol poisoning and other related injuries.
2. There are roughly 80,000 deaths that are related to alcohol abuse every year, making it the 3rd highest cause of death in the U.S.
Facts:
3. 18 to 34-year-olds binge drink the most. Binging can lead to unplanned pregnancy, car accidents, spread of sexually transmitted disease, violence or alcohol dependence.
4. Approximately 17% of men and 8% of women will be dependent on alcohol in their lifetime.

3. Local shelters
Families need to be educated about alcoholism because it's a serious issue in the U.S. Many deaths and injuries occur every year due to alcohol. Families need to be awAre of what's going on in the real world.
Decisions that need to be made by a family that has family member(s) that have alcoholism:
1. Attend AA meetings
2. Rehab facilities
3. Counseling

I personally chose this topic because my grandfather used to be an alcoholic. I was interested about alcoholism so I looked more into it and educated myself. This assignment has affected me because it's upsetting of how dangerous and serious alcoholism is in the United States.
