Lessons From My Week With Strep

Last week, Tuesday was the beginning of the worst sickness I can recall in, well, forever!

I woke up with what my doctor called an “impressive” case of strep.

The worst he's seen in his years of practice.

Leave it to me to go big with that, too.

Just so you'll have a bit of sympathy for me...

I will tell you I couldn’t swallow, talk or eat for several days.

Standing up, reading email, or having meetings?

No sale.

I was forced to just rest.

Why did it happen?

I’m not sure — I had just spent a whirlwind 3 days in a mastermind with people from all over the world.

We were locked in a room talking strategy, book business, and global domination.

(Including a few upcoming projects I’m excited to share soon.)

Perhaps one of those bugs made it’s way over from the other side of the globe right to me (lucky me)!

More likely, it might have something to do with the speed & intensity at which I have been working the past few months.

Nevertheless, I learned a few lessons, and I’m hopeful you’ll take note.

Let's save you some pain and suffering:

#1. Rest is good. Sleep is good.

Plan to get it, and get it.

You think you can’t go to bed, that project just HAS to get done?

Got a migraine, so you’ll just pop two Excedrin and keep going?

Look, you either plan to get your rest, or eventually your body will stop until you do.

What do you need to do go get the amount of rest you need to stay healthy, happy and productive?

#2. Anything can be canceled or rescheduled.

ANYTHING.

I have never cancelled a coaching session in 15 years. Until last Tuesday.

You know what?

My client was actually relieved to have a few extra days.

As it turns out, she was thrilled to learn I was actually human (I totally am).

What needs to be taken off of your calendar or rescheduled until later?

So you have the breathing room you need to be happy, healthy, and productive?

#3. What is important gets done.

When I finally felt better, there were a number of things I decided not to do … ever.

Losing a few days of work meant that I had to prioritize like a rock star, and I let a few things go …

You know what?

It felt great!

I got the most important tasks done, other things got to wait, and others will never get done (yay!)

What are your top priorities?

Is there anything else that needs to be eliminated from your schedule so you can give them the attention they deserve?

I hope you NEVER experience what I did last week.

I also hope you benefit from what I’ve shared.

Have a healthy and productive week!
