Plant Cell Vocabulary

The Cell Theory

• All living organisms are composed of one or more cells
• The cell is the basic unit of structure in organisms
• All cells come from pre existing cells

Cell Membrane

• The cell membrane is a thin layer of the cell that controls what can enter and exit the cell

Cell Wall

• The cell wall is only found in plant cells. It gives the plant shape

Chloroplasts

• Chloroplasts are also only found in plant cells. Photosynthesis occurs in this part.

Cytoplasm

• The cytoplasm is a jelly-like substance that surrounds organelles.

Nucleus

• The nucleus stores the cells DNA. It is known as the "brain" of a cell.

Organelle

• The organelle is a part of a cell that functions to keep the cell alive.

Vacuole

• The vacuole stores the cells water.
