Location

  • (1610) The Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island
  • (1900's) Charlestown, Rhode Island

Food & Ways They've Did

  • Most men went hunting, but the majority of them went fishing and mostly farming
  • They grew Maines, Squashes, and Wheats
  • Others got salmons, Buffalo meat and hide
  • Women and some children would cook the food supply and store them in a food storage house for winter

Population

  • (1610) More than 10,000 members
  • (1633) 9,300 members
  • (1674) 5,000 members
  • (1682) 500 members
  • (1984) Approx. 2,500 and increasing

Housing

  • Long wooden houses at medium size (500 - 600 sq. ft.
  • About 2 - 3 could live in it
  • It lasted until the Explorers arrived

Brief History

  • The Dutch and Englanders were to not trade or mess with the Narragansett people on the bay, but they did
  • The Narragansett didn't contract the Smallpox at the time, until 1630, about 300 died from Smallpox
  • During King Philip's War in the 1680's, 4,500 Narragansett members died, leaving only 500 remaining

Summary

  • The Narragansett tribe is just one of many in North America at the time, and they worked really hard, trying to survive in the continent. Since some members are still alive today, maybe they would know everything about what they did and ho they do it.
