VALLEY

  • A LOW AREA OF LAND BETWEEN HILLS OR MOUNTAINS.
  • Example: Yumthang Valley (India)

PLAIN

  • A LARGE AREA OF FLAT LAND WITH FEW TREES.
  • Example: The Great Plains

REEF

  • A RIDGE OF JAGGED ROCK, CORAL, OR SAND JUST ABOVE/BELOW THE SURFACE OF THE SEA.
  • Example: Barrier Reefs

PLATEAU

  • AN AREA OF RELATIVELY LEVEL HIGH GROUND.
  • Example: Kukenan Tepui (Venezuela)

ISLAND

  • A PIECE OF LAND SURROUNDED BY WATER.
  • Example: Moloka‘i, Hawwii

RIVER

  • A LARGE NATURAL STREAM OF WATER FLOWING IN A CHANNEL TO THE SEA.
  • Example: Mississippi River

LAKE

  • A LARGE BODY OF WATER SURROUNDED BY LAND.
  • Lake Erie (Michigan)

MOUNTAIN

  • a large natural elevation of the earth's surface rising abruptly from the surrounding level; a large steep hill.
  • Example: Mount Everest

STRAIT

  • a narrow passage of water connecting two seas or two large areas of water.
  • Example: Dardanelles Strait

PENINSULA

  • a piece of land almost surrounded by water or projecting out into a body of water.
  • Example: Iberian Peninsula

ISTHMUS

  • narrow strip of land with sea on either side, forming a link between two larger areas of land.
  • Example: Isthmus of Panama

ARCHIPELAGO

  • A group of islands.
  • Example: the Hawaiian Islands

CANYON

  • a deep gorge, typically one with a river flowing through it.
  • Example: The Grand Canyon

DELTA

  • triangular mass of sediment, especially silt and sand, deposited at the mouth of a river.
  • Example: the Nile Delta

GULF

  • a deep inlet of the sea almost surrounded by land, with a narrow mouth.
  • Example: Gulf of Mexico
