  • Youth rarely think about suicide
  • Suicide is sudden and unpredictable
  • Suicidal people are just tying to get attention
  • Suicidal people want to die
  • Talking about suicide increases risk
Survey of 15,000 grade 7 to 12 youth in BC...
1. 34% know someone who has attempted or died
2. 16% had seriously considered themselves
3. 14% had made a suicide plan
4. 7% had made an attempt
5. 2% had made an attempt requiring medical attention

SIGNS OF DEPRESSION

  • Change in sleep patterns
  • Excessive feelings of sadness or guilt
  • Thoughts of hopelessness or death
  • Decreased concentration
  • Low energy

SIGNS OF DEPRESSION

  • Lack of interest or pleasure
  • Agitation or physical slowing
  • Weight loss when not dieting
  • Depressed mood, anger, irritability
