Build your network
BEFORE you need it.

Build your LinkedIn page and reconnect with past colleagues.

Begin connecting with a broader range of people on your personal Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.

Do this even before you have a product in production.

Once a business name is decided, secure it on all social platforms.

Leverage live networking with social media networking. If you’re not ready to jump in and talk about your company, then who else will be? Go to networking events, startup meetups, coworking spaces, and other industry events to try to get your name out. Talk, talk, talk. And find a way to connect with interested people online.

Especially if you are looking at crowdfunding.

Be AUTHENTIC.

People want to know the person and company behind a product.

Storytelling is key. Why are you launching your product?

Share the good, the bad, and the ugly. People love to cheer for the underdog and celebrate with the victor. Sharing what you learned from failures along the way with make you more authentic.

Build COMMUNITY.

Strive for an active and engaged community over a large anonymous following.

Involve people in the process

Poll your audience

Offer ways for people to sample your product

Respond to every comment, message, tweet

Network and partner with others in non-competing businesses.

Give others press and they’re likely to give you press – tag people, mention companies
Use the services of others who are likely to partner with you.
Use events: live or virtual to build excitement for your launch

Develop shareable CONTENT.

Truly know your audience and provide content that is worthy of their attention.

What’s going on in your industry, cross-industry, politics, arts, entertainment, etc that you can tie into.

Differentiate yourself. If you do what every other company does, you’re not worth talking about.

Use graphics and video to emphasize your message.

Be clear about your call to action

Give regular updates and celebrate milestones.

Get HELP when
you need it.

You’ll learn about a lot of resources available through events like Forward Fest.

Reach out to people who’ve been through it and can help you.
