PRESENTATION OUTLINE

EPISCOPAL CHURCH HOME

LAUREN BRADLEY

My Service
At the Episcopal Church Home, I took part in many activities with the residents. I painted nails in preparation for the Christmas party. I helped walk residents to and from mass. I also served food and drinks to the residents at their tea parties and sat with them and talked to them as they ate.

My Impact
When I volunteer at the Episcopal Church Home, I can see how happy residents are when there is a young volunteer with them. Being there shows the residents that someone cares and that makes the residents smile all the time. They love to tell stories about when they were my age and how they met their husband or wife. The residents really enjoy having someone to talk to that will listen to their stories, and I enjoy being that someone.

My Impact
The residents were always happy to see how happy I was to help them. They would introduce me to their family members and other residents as their friend. This showed me how much of an impact I can make on this community simply by being there and showing that I care. The residents in each "neighborhood" I visited were so happy to have a new volunteer that they could meet.

My Service Reflecting Christ
My service at the Episcopal Church Home reflects the life, ministry, and mission of Jesus' life because much like Jesus did, I took the time to help the underprivileged people that are in need of my help. Jesus cared for the sick and the disabled. At the Episcopal Church Home, I care for the elderly, disabled, and sick.

My Service Reflecting Christ
Jesus taught us to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. At the Episcopal Church Home, I am given the opportunity to show my love for my neighbors by helping them with everyday things that they are incapable of doing. This opportunity causes me to feel love in return of my services. I know that the residents enjoy volunteers spending time with them and I am happy to show my love and devotion to the community.

The Impact Left on Me
The Episcopal Church Home left a huge impact on me. Before I began volunteering there, I was not very confident making conversation with people I had just met. I also did not like elderly people because I didn't think I was very good with them. I was completely wrong about both of these points and volunteering there showed me that. I was easily capable of connecting with the residents and making conversation with them was very easy for me to do.

How Volunteering Changed Me
I used to think of service as something you do just to build a better relationship with God and His children. While that is a very good reason to serve the community, I found that there are more. Volunteering helped me to grow empathy with people that I know that are having a hard time coping with a grandparent with memory loss. I would usually just feel a lot of pity, but I never really knew what they were going through. Now that I have seen it first-hand, I can grow more as a person and learn to help others that are going through this.
