PRESENTATION OUTLINE

THE TELESCOPE

  • Before the invention of the telescope man could only attempt to understand the gods in space.
  • Today we know much more than those early astronomers and are able to draw conclusions based on facts.
  • This modern age of more information started with one man and an invention, that man Hans Lippershey and the invention was a Telescope.

HANS LIPPERSHEY

  • The Dutch eyeglass maker revolutionized the world when he made an observation that would change everything.
  • While one day watching some kids play in his workshop they noticed they could make far away objects closer Hans realized the potential of this so he got to work and patented the first telescope

ISSAC NEWTON

  • Issac Newton was the next to make a significant change to the telescope.By using a mirror to look through a lens he effectivly focused the aim of a telescope to a fixed point and could look at whatever was in his telescopic range.
  • This increased the ease of using a telescope because he only needed to keep one lens finely polished

INTERESTING FACTS

  • Galileo was the first to look at the heavens through a telescope and he made discoveries like Jupiter and looked closely at the moons craters.
  • Merchants used to love telescopes not for their astronomical purposes but to look and see far distances a head for like bandits or also to communicate across vast distances

HOW IT HAS EFFECTED US

  • The telescope has allowed man to see and understand things we could only have guessed about in the past and today we have built huge telescopes that must be perfect down to the nanometer.
  • It was known to help prove the heliocentric solar system and will help us in our thirst to find intelligent life elsewhere in the universe.
