There were many different reasons to migrate. New opportunities, religious freedom, political unrest, and jobs.
In the early or mid 1800s, most immigrants were Catholics or Protestants.
Most of the immigrants who arrived in the late 1800s were from southern and eastern Europe.
Few from the late 1800s understood English, democracies, and living in large cities.
Most immigrants from the late 1800s were Jewish and Catholic.
