PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Biodiversity has been decreasing as more and more animals become endangered or extinct.
Here is information about four animals, and why they're endangered.
ABOUT TIGERS
- Habitat can be forests or grasslands
- Weigh about 220-660 lbs.
- Can be 4-10 ft long
There is some human-tiger conflict. If tigers don't have enough prey, they will resort to livestock, making it harder for humans to live around them.
Tigers are also illegally traded, and humans have been destroying their habitats. 93% of their historic range was lost to deforestation.
INTERESTING FACTS
- The average tiger has 100 stripes.
- Like fingerprints, no two tigers have the same pattern.
ABOUT ELEPHANTS
- Habitats can be forests or grasslands.
- Weighs 4-6 tons.
- Can be up to 18-24 ft long.
Elephants are also illegally traded. Ivory was banned in 1989 but is still sold around the world. Elephants are also killed for their meat and hides.
As wild spaces disappear due to human pressure, elephants lose ancient migratory routes.
Elephants are known for eating agriculture farms. This also causes conflict between humans and elephants.
UNIQUE FACT
- To prevent elephants from eating their farm, with out hurting the elephants, farmers will smear ropes and wire fences with a paste of chili pepper, oil, and elephant poop.
