PRESENTATION OUTLINE

UPA Tomcod

Colby, Zach, Kevin

The Atlantic Tomcod is a common bottom-feeding fish in the Hudson River

The Tomcod survives chemical exposures that kills most other fish. These chemicals are called PCB's

General Electric released 1.3 million pounds of PCBs into the Hudson River from 1947 to 1976.

Some Tomcod have a gene variation that protects them from PCB's

This gives them a higher rate of survival and more time to reproduce then Tomcod without this variation.

Part 2

Hypothesis

Suppose there was a Tomcod specie with a gene variation that allowed them to produce twice as many eggs.

If the pollution (PCB’s) in the Hudson River were eliminated, then the Tomcod with this gene variation would outcompete those that didn’t have this variation.
