ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAPHY

  • Used to show brain activity in certain states
  • To measure brain activity, metal electrodes
  • are placed on the scalp. Each electrode
  • or lead makes a recording.

POSITRON EMMISION TOMOGRAPHY

  • AKA (PET)
  • Shows brain processes.
  • Using the sugar glucose in
  • the brain to illustrate where
  • neuron firing is taking place.

MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING

  • The most advanced and helpful
  • invention in the brain physiology.
  • An MRI uses strong magnetic feilds
  • to align spinning atomic nuclei within
  • body tissues.

(MRI) CONT.

  • Then disturbs the axis of
  • rotation of these nuclei and
  • observes the radio frequency
  • signal generated as the nuclei
  • return to their baseline status.

FOUR NEW WORDS

  • Neuroimaging
  • Conductivity
  • Magnetic fields
  • Frequency

CONDUCTIVITY

  • The degree to which a
  • specified material conducts
  • electricity.

FREQUENCY

  • the number of occurrences
  • of a repeating event per u it
  • time.

MAGNETIC FEILD

  • A condition in the space
  • around a magnet or electric
  • current in which there is a
  • detectible magnetic force and
  • two magnetic poles are present

NEUROIMAGINING

  • The process of producing
  • images of the structure or
  • activity of the brain or other
  • part of the nervous system.

TWO INTERESTING FACTS

  • MRI is the most advanced and helpful invention in the brain psysiology.
  • Four of the most common types of brain scanes include the EEG, PET, MRI, and the fMRI.

WHY IS BRAIN SCANNING TECHNIQUES PART OF PSYCHOLOGY?

  • Brain scanning techniques is
  • Important to psychology because
  • The brain scaning techniques help
  • Us better understand the structure
  • of the brain.

¿TWO QUESTIONS?

  • Is the MRI the most advanced
  • and helpful invention to brain
  • physiology? (T/F)

TRUE

THE ANSWER IS TRUE

QUESTION 2

  • How do humans scan
  • brain activity?
