Contribution

  • Chadwick discovered the neutron and proved that it did exsist(
  • It's a subatomic particle of about the same mass as a proton but with no
  • Electric charge, but is present in all atomic nuclei(nucleus)except
  • Those with ordinary hydrogen.)

The Experiment

  • James Chadwick constructed an experiment where he
  • Projected alpha particles(two protons and two neutrons are
  • bound together) and when the alpha particles reached the
  • beryllium(a chemical element with the atomic number 4)
  • the beryllium became neutrons and fell on paraffin wax

Experiment continued

  • Which released another type of protons which
  • James Chadwick named the neutron.

Accepted to scientific community

  • He discovered the neutron in 1932 and it was
  • Accepted in 1935. Also he was still living
  • during the time.

Fact

  • James Chadwick did a lot of work and experiments
  • which lead him to the discovery of the neutron.
  • He also won a Nobel prize in physics in 1935.
  • In 1911 he graduated from the honors school of physics.
