PRESENTATION OUTLINE

earths name

IT IS A GERMAN WORD FOR GROUND .IN GERMAN IT IS 'ERDE'. ALL OF THE PLANETS, EXCEPT FOR EARTH, WERE NAMED AFTER GREEK AND ROMAN GODS AND GODDESSES.

planet discovery

The concept of a spherical Earth dates back to ancient Greek philosophy from around the 6th century BC,[1] but remained a matter of philosophical speculation until the 3rd century BC when Hellenistic astronomy established the spherical shape of the earth as a physical given. The Hellenistic paradigm was gradually adopted throughout the Old World during Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages.[2][3][4][5] A practical demonstration of Earth's sphericity was achieved by Ferdinand Magellan and Juan Sebastian Elcano's expedition's circumnavigation.

planet size

Earth, the third planet from the sun, is the fifth largest planet in the solar system; only the gas giants Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are bigger. Earth is the largest of the terrestrial planets of the inner solar system, bigger than Mercury, Venus and Mars. Radius, diameter and circumference The mean radius of Earth is 3,959 miles (6,371 kilometers). However, Earth is not quite a sphere. The planet's rotation causes it to bulge at the equator. Earth's equatorial diameter is 7,926 miles (12,756 kilometers), but from pole to pole, the diameter is 7,900 miles (12,720 km) — a difference of only 40 miles (36 km).

gravity

the force of gravity on earth is just perfect for humans, if it were a little less or a little more we'd be floating off in space or we'd be hardly able to lift are feet to walk.

orbit

the earths orbit is 365 DAYS ON A NORMAL YEAR BUT EVERY FOUR YEARS THE YEAR IS 366 DAYS LONG

atmosphere

The atmosphere of Earth is a layer of gases surrounding the planet Earth that is retained by Earth's gravity. The atmosphere protects life on Earth by absorbing ultraviolet solar radiation, warming the surface through heat retention (greenhouse effect), and reducing temperature extremes between day and night (the diurnal temperature variation). earths atmosphere is thick if it were thin we would not be able to survive.

tempurature

The temperature on earth are suited for life unlike anywhere else. earths temperature matches earths completely.

COMPOSITION OF YOUR PLANET AND ITS APPEARANCE

The Earth is classified as a type of terrestrial planet. Terrestrial planets have rocky surfaces, and are closer to the sun than their gaseous counterparts. earth looks green and blue and white if you are looking at it from outer space .

Moons

Our moon is not alone: Scores of unseen mini-moons are now in orbit around Earth, new computer models predict. What's more, these tiny moons occasionally plummet through our planet's atmosphere, creating brilliant fireballs, the researchers say. The findings are based on supercomputer simulations of ten million asteroids known to fly through the Earth-moon system. The models show that objects that circle the sun in orbits similar to Earth's are likely to be captured as mini-moons.

rings

.IF YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT MAJESTIC ICE RINGS, LIKE WE SEE AROUND SATURN, URANUS OR JUPITER, THEN NO, EARTH DOESN’T HAVE RINGS, AND PROBABLY NEVER DID. IF THERE WAS ANY RING OF DUST ORBITING THE PLANET, WE’D SEE IT. IT’S POSSIBLE THAT THERE WERE RINGS ORBITING EARTH IN THE PAST. SOME SCIENTISTS THINK THAT EARTH’S GRAVITY COULD HAVE BROKEN UP A COMET OR ASTEROID THAT GOT TOO CLOSE TO THE PLANET, BUT DIDN’T ACTUALLY COLLIDE

what would happen to a human being on earth

A HUMAN BEING WOULD LIVE JUST FINE ON EARTH BECAUSE WE HAVE EVERYTHING FROM HOT TO COLD TO MILD TEMPERATURES THAT SUITE ANYONE AND EVERYTHING TO THERE ONE DESIRE.

something special

SOME SPECIAL THINGS ABOUT EARTH IS THAT: A. IT IS SO FOR THE ONLY PLANET FOUND THAT CAN SUPPORT LIFE B. IT IS THE ONLY PLANET THAT'S NAME DOES NOT COME FROM GREEK/ROMAN MYTHOLOGY C.EARTH IS MOSTLY COVERED IN WATER, WHILE THE WORD EARTH IS OFTEN USED SYNONYMOUSLY WITH DIRT, SEVENTY-ONE PERCENT OF THE ITS SURFACE IS COVERED WITH WATER. IT IS THE ONLY PLANET WHERE IT EXISTS IN ITS LIQUID FORM ON THE SURFACE. THIS IS PROBABLY PART OF THE REASON THAT THE EARTH IS THE ONLY PLANET KNOWN TO CONTAIN LIFE.

culture and planets

The Babylonians believed in the existence of five planets, each representing a God. Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Mercury and Mars were the five planets identified by the Babylonians. They thought that the movements of the sun, moon and other planets were associated with the activities of God. They believed in being able to predict the activities of these Gods, in order to predict the events on Earth. The Babylonian priests predicted the events in human life, based on their interpretations of the heavenly activities.
