April 22, 1970- Earth day (politics)

Today is the first Earth day ever. I am so glad this is holiday already. I love the earth so much. I think i am going to go out with my family and pick up trash. This makes me feeling really good, I hope a lot of people participate to change the world. I wonder how long this will go on for ?

May 4, 1970- Kent state (politics)
I was a bystander today watching all of the students protesting the Cambodian campaign that Nixon started. It was peaceful and the national guards had no right to kill and harm innocent protesters. This makes me so upset that students can protest and express the way they feel. I wonder what kind of trouble this event is gonna cause?

May 8, 1970- Popular music (culture)

Today is the day Jackson 5 released their song ABC. I haven't heard it yet. But I love their group and I can't wait to hear it. I met Michael Jackson before in Detroit. He is my favorite out of the group. I wonder if this song is gonna be a big hit?

November 21, 1970- Terrorist act (terrorism)
It is noon on a Saturday. I woke up around 3 AM to a big noise. I went back to bed not knowing what it was. My friend stopped by and told me how someone bombed Portland city hall. It destroyed a replica of the liberty bell. This is so messed up, who would do such a thing ?

February 21, 1972- Nixon visits China (Politics)

Today Nixon visited China. He went there to formally normalize relations between us and the PRC. He meet with Mao Zedong in Beijing. This makes me feel a lot better. We always had conflict with china. So hopefully they work everything out and we won't have problems with them anymore. I really wonder what they talked about ?

June 17, 1972- Watergate (Politics)
Early this morning 5 former CIA agents tried breaking into watergate. They wanted to bug their systems. I am glad they got caught. People like that need to be off the streets. I wonder if they were working for someone?
My dad has been to that building before.

August 26, 1972- Summer Olympics (Culture)
Today was the opening ceremony of the summer Olympics. It is being hosted in Munich, West Germany. Summer Olympics are my favorite. I love watching and hearing all about them. My sister almost made it to the Olympics before, she is really fast. I wonder how many gold medals US is going to take home ?

January 22, 1973- Roe vs. wade (civil rights)

Today is the day that the Roe vs wade case is finally solved. Roe won the case. She didn't think the laws were fair about abortion in Texas. I think abortion is wrong. It was your choice to have a kid. You can't just kill your baby because you don't want it. It's a person too and it can probably feel pain. One of my cousins had a abortion and I told her how wrong it was. I wonder if other states will follow the change?

March 30, 1973- ERA (civil rights)
For a long time now the equal rights amendment has been trying to be pushed and I want it to be. The ERA is an amendment where women are equal to men. Women should not be treated differently nor should anyone. My aunt is still a part of the NOW organztion and she has taught me well about it. When will women have full and equal rights?

October 16, 1973- OPEC oil embargo (politics)
Great! OAPEC proclaimed an oil embargo. This is going to have a bad affect on our economy. Our gas prices are gonna go up so high now. It's all because we got involved in the Yom Kippur war. I hope this doesn't last a long time.
I'm gonna start walking if the gas prices are too high. I wonder how long this will last for ?

December 28, 1973- Endangered species act (politics)
Finally the Endangered Species Act is effective. This should of happened along time ago! We need to converse and take care of our wild life. Because when their gone they can't come back. If a animal or plant becomes instinct, it could have a huge effect on the food chain. Where I live this one plant is in danger of becoming extinct. Now I really hope people follow the rules and help out. I wonder how many animals and plants this is going save?

March 5, 1974- Nixon tapes (politics)
I can't believe Nixon secretly recorded phone calls and conversations in the White House. That is not right at all. He secretly invaded people's privacy. I hope he gets in a lot of trouble. That makes me feel uncomfortable because people could be listening in on my conversations or phone calls. I wonder what kind of trouble he is going to get into for doing that?

September 8, 1974- Ford pardons (politics)
Ford grants Nixon full pardon for what he did. Ford said that Nixon has already suffered enough. I think it was a good idea to pardon him. The guy can't be trusted. With the watergate scandal then how he recorded phone calls. He deserved it. I really wonder how he feels?

August 9, 1974- Nixon resigned (politics)
Finally he finally resigned, it's about time. He was issued a pardon by his successor general ford. He is the first president to resign. Even though he did some bad things. He isn't that bad of a guy. I meant him once before when he spoke in Detriot. But what he did was so wrong. I wonder if he regrets stuff?

April 13, 1975- Fads & Fashion (culture)
Today I am going to talk about my pet rock. His name is joe and he likes sleeping and he never talks. Pet rocks are a big fad in the 70's. I think it's a fun and clever idea. My whole family has one. I think I'm going to mark some more. I wonder how long this fad is going to last for.

April 30, 1975- Fall of Saigon (politics)
Finally the war is over and Saigon has fell to north Vietnamese. Saigon is the capital of South Vietnam. Now it's time to turn it into a socialist republic. After the city fell many people where evacuated, such as American civilians and military personal. I don't like wars I am against them. My dad has been to Saigon before, he said it was a nice place. I can't image a war going on there. I wonder when things will go back to normal their?

June 1, 1975- popular movie (culture)
Yes today is the day that Jaws is released! It's going to be so good I know it. The director is Steven Spielberg, he is my absolute favorite. I am so afraid of the ocean because of sharks. So after I see this movie I will defiantly not want to go swimming. My uncle swam with sharks in Florida before. I wonder if this movie is going to be a big hit?

December 16, 1977- disco sn fever (culture)
I just say the movie Disco Saturday Night fever. I liked it so much and I think it shows very well the culture and taste of our ERA.also John travolta is in their and he is a really good actor. I love this movie. I don't know if my dad liked it though. I wonder if the next generation will enjoy this movie.

June 28, 1978- Affirmation action (politics)
Today the university of California v. Bakke. This was a affirmative action. It was about a kid named Allan bakke, a white applicant, was rejected twice even though there were minority applicants admitted with lower scores than his. Bakke thought it was not right for them to judge him of his race. The Supreme Court ruled that while race was a legitimate factor in school admissions, the use of such inflexible quotas as the medical school had set aside was not. I wonder how this is going to affect the affirmation action?

September 17, 1978- camp David peace accords (politics)
Today Egyptian president Anwar el-Sadat and Israel prime minister Menachem signed the camp David accords. It's a permanent peace agreement between Egypt and Israel. They talked a bout it for 12 days at Carters camp David retreat in the catoctin mountains of Maryland. I am glad they did this. It solved stuff and relied tension. One time me and my sister had to make a piece treaty. I wonder if this is going to really last?

March 28, 1979- 3 mile island (accident)
This is crazy! A nuclear meltdown occurred today in Pennsylvania. The incident was rated a five on the seven-point international nuclear event scale. I heard it was caused by a failure in the non-nuclear secondary system. This is very scary how it happened all on accident. Me and my family visited Pennsylvania before and saw the plant. It is going to cost the government so much time and money to fix and handle this situation. I wonder what new safety rules will come about?

December 12, 1979- Soviets invade Afghanistan (Cold War)
Today the soviet-afghan war started. The soviets invade Afghanistan. It's part of the Cold War. It was against soviet-led afghan forces against a group called Mujahideen.
