PUSH FACTORS

  • Push factors are negative conditions that make people leave their home.
  • Exp: poverty, environmental conditions, warfare, etc.

PULL FACTORS

  • Pull factors are positive conditions that attract people to migrate to an area.
  • Exp: religious freedom, job opportunities, etc.

PUSH VS PULL FACTORS

THEY ARE SIMILAR IN THAT THEY BOtH ALTER THE POPULATION OF THE AREAS THEY AFFECT
They are similar in that they both alter the population of the areas they affect. They are interrelated in that they are opposites of each other. For example, while religious persecution might force people to move from a country, religious freedom might attract those people to another country.

EXAMPLE OF PULL FACTORS

THE BILL OF RIGHTS GUARANTEE CERTAIN RIGHTS TO ALL CITIZENS, MAKING IT A PULL FACTOR.

EXAMPLE OF PUSH FACTORS

THIS IS THE AFTERMATH OF HURRICANE KATRINA, WHICH FORCED THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE TO EVACUATE.
