COMPROMISE OF 1850
Date: January 21, 1850. Henry Clay tried to creat a compromise that allowed new states into the union.

FUGITIVE SLAVE ACT
Date: 1850
It required Northerners to help catch runaway slaves. It mad northerners mad because they didn't want to have to support slavery.

UNCLE TOM'S CABIN
Date: 1850 Harriet Stowe's book caused more people to want to help slaves and care for them more.

KANSAS-NEBRASKA ACT
The Kansas-Nebraska Act allowed Kansas & Nebraska to decide if they were going to be a slave state or a free state.

BLEEDING KANSAS 1856
There were a lot of people killed during this act, because everyone was having a hard time dealing with the new states.

DRED SCOTT DECISION 1857
The Supreme Court said that all slave owners were allowed to bring slaves to the free states. They also said African-Americans could never be Citizens of the United States.

JOHN BROWN'S ATTACK ON HARPER 'S FERRY 1859
John Brown was trying to help end slavery but soon got executed for it. The north was happy, but the south was nervous about more uprisings.

WAR OFFICIALLY START AT FORT SUMTER 1861
The war officially started & the south attempts to try & take over Fort Sumter.

LINCOLN ELECTED 1860
Lincoln gets elected president, but a lot of states secede before he even gets elected.
