DAVID ALMOND

LIFE (PAGE 1)

• David almond was born in 1951 in Newcastle and he lived in a old mining town called Felling
• He lived in a large catholic family with lots of relatives nearby
• He lived with his mother, father, 4 sisters and 1 brother.
• One of his sisters was very ill just like Michaels baby sister in Skellig and David's ill sister was homeschooled
• Sadly David's mother had painful arthritis

LIFE (PAGE 2)

• David loved playing football and camping in the hills near where they lived
• He always dreamed of being an author and he loved going to the library
• He liked primary school but he disliked grammar school (secondary school)
• He went to the University of East Anglia and studied American and English literature
• He trained to be a teacher

• He took some time out to write full time and lived in an commune for 1 +1/2 years
• He then taught children with learning difficulties
• He wrote short stories for magazines which where broadcast on radio
• His first book for young people was SKELLIG and was published in 1998
• Since then he has written more children novels such as The Fire Eater

• He also writes for theatre
• Now he lives with his family in Northumberland
