PEACOCK PLANT

  • The red-purple pigment on the underside of the leaves is a special adaption that captures green light on the floor of the rainforest.
  • The leaves on the peacock plant fold up at night.

ORCHIDS

Landscape

  • A tropical rainforest consists mainly of moss and other lush plantation, rocks, trees, healthy soil, and grasses. The actual land of a rainforest is usually quite rocky, it isn't uncommon for a rainforest to cover small mountains, and hills. Even though there is a lack of light that reaches the forest floor, countless species of plants, animals, and insects continue to thrive in this biome.

Fun facts

  • Tropical rainforests are home to hundreds of different types of trees.
  • Rainforests provide people with many different cooking spices such as vanilla, allspice, and black pepper.
  • Droppings of birds in the tropical rainforest grow into new plants.
  • Because of the amount of trees in the tropical rainforest biome, they are responsible for the majority of the oxygen production in the air that we breathe.
  • Insects make up most of living creatures in the tropical rainforest.
