Careers in Crime Scene Investigation generally require an associate or bachelor's degree in Crime Scene forensics, criminal justice, forensic science or a related field.

What you would do on a daily basis-
Crime Scene examiners, get to take part in a unique and interesting intellectual challenge on a daily basis. They have to piece together, just from the clues present at the crime scene, what happened, who was involved, and why it happened they way it did. To meet this challenge, competent crime scene investigators use an arsenal skills: Fingerprinting, creating footprints impressions, sketching the crime scene,talking detailed photos of the scene carefully, packing evidence to be taken for DNA or other analysis

At the lab-
Depending on the type of lab or agency they work with, a Crime Scene Investigator may use the following techniques
-performing DNA tests on physical evidence.
-Analyzing ballistics evidence for time of fire and make.
-Doing hard work analysis.
-Consulting with doctors and other medical experts about their findings.

Salary
The average Crime Scene Investigator makes between $25,000 and $50,000 a year, depending on where they work and how well educated they are.the average salary is $50,300 and the highest paid CSI's make about $76,400 per year. The highest paid CSI's include those with the title Latent print, Technician, Criminalist and Crime Scene Technician.

How does this carrier fit into Biological field-
Technology, behind Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) has made the field a victim of it's own success; even the briefest contact with an innocent individuals DNA- the genetic fingerprint found in blood,saliva,hair,skin cells, and more - can contaminate a Crime Scene and confuse investigators. Attending autopsies and investigating causes of death, liaising with Law Enforcement, Criminal investigators, laboratory workers, pathologists,lawyers, and other medical and legal professionals; and keeping abreast of the latest techniques in the field.

What skills are needed to excel in this career-
Those who typically become Crime Scene Investigator's have either served some time as Law Enforcement officers and become familiar with the legal investigative process, or they have earned a four-year degree in Criminal Justice, Biology, Chemistry, Botany, Genetics or Physics. In some cases, two-year degrees are acceptable, if there is enough experience in a particular specialty in handwriting,fingerprinting, law enforcement, art, photography or ballistics.
