THE FIRST MOSQUES

  • The very first mosque was Muhammad's house
  • Built with mud bricks
  • Praying took place on the roof
  • The first mosques were simple, they were like Muhammad's house
  • The first mosque became the Qu'baa

MOSQUES TODAY

  • Over the years, the Qu'baa was expanded
  • Qu'baa is one of the most famous buildings in Islam

THE BLUE MOSQUE

  • The Blue Mosque is in Istanbul
  • It has many domes and minarets
  • Minarets are tall towers with balconies
  • The Blue Mosque is covered over with 20,000 glazed tiles
  • In the center there is a large dome with verses from the Qur'an

THE ALHAMBRA

  • The Alhambra is a palace built in the 1400s, located in Spain
  • There are 3 parts: Mexuar, Serallo, and Harem
  • The 1st part is very plain, and used for the government
  • The 2nd part contains many rooms, and is expensively decorated, used for guests
  • The 3rd part is the most decorated, where the King and Queen Of Muslim Spain

THE TAJ MAHAL

  • The Taj Mahal was a tomb for an emperor's wife
  • The Taj Mahal had a central dome
  • Also had 4 minarets that where 40 meters high
  • There was also beautiful gardens
