WHO IS MY EXPLORER?

  • Born around 1570 in London England
  • His brother died in 1601
  • He grew up on sea
  • Grew up to be an English sea captain
  • He had a beard

WHAT DID MY EXPLORER DO?

  • He Fought the Spanish on sea
  • Looked for the northeast and northwest passage to Asia
  • Traded steel and axes for gold and spices
  • Discovered Hudson Bay, Hudson River , and Hudson Strait
  • Started all discoveries in Europe
  • Made four voyages and attempts to find passages to Asia

WHERE DID MY EXPLORER EXPLORE?

  • On the sea and land
  • Second voyage was across the Arctic Ocean and his ship was named New Moon
  • Explored Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, and in North America, present day Greenland, Europe, Asia and Africa

  • He made four voyages
  • In 1607 his first voyage began
  • On his third voyage, he discovered Hudson Bay
  • On his fourth voyage he disappeared

  • Because he wanted to get to Asia to trade steel and axes for gold and spices

  • Now we have major land marks mapped in North America
  • Maps have the places that he discovered for example, Hudson Bay

WHAT I THINK ABOUT MY EXPLORER'S EXPLORATIONS

  • I think Henry Hudson was caring because he didn't kill anybody. I would like to visit Hudson Bay. I think he's a risk taker because he went on sea to explore, which can be dangerous.
