Port Royal

Impact
This event took place off the coast of South Carolina on Parris Island. This was a major victory for the Union early in the war. The south was out numbered by federal troop sent to claim the fort. The Confederate army lost twice as many soldiers (some capture, killed, or lost) than the Union army.

IMPORTANT FACTS

• The attack on Port Royal lasted from December third through the seventh.
• The Union was lead by Samuel F. Dupont, while the Confederacy was lead by Thomas F. Drayton
• This was a blockade of southern ports declared by Abraham Lincoln, defending the Confederate army from getting help from other countries on goods necessary for war like guns, weapons, etc.
