Review
In this book 11-year-old Wadja teaches you to fight for what is right and to be yourself no matter what others think.
Wadjda lives in Saudi Arabia with her mom in a falling apart house. Her unreliable dad is in and out of their family. Wadja has to walk to and from school in the scorching heat every day. One day she sees a beautiful emerald green bike. Wadjda realizes she NEEDS this bike. If she had a bike she could race her friend Abdullah around the village and get to school in half the time! But the problem is that it’s not proper for women to ride bikes in her culture. Even above all that she can’t afford it. Follow the journey of Wadja earning 800 riyals before someone else buys the bike.
This book is incredibly moving. You feel the highs and lows of her life. A wonderful insight into the life of Saudi Arabian women. You can connect with her struggles of a kid trying to make friend. A heartwarming book with an ending that won’t disappoint.
I highly recommend this book to teenage girls around the world. The book is a bit mature for younger readers but the message is very empowering. I would rate it 4/5 stars. The book was lacking in excitement in the beginning but made up for it in the end.
