Pre-calculus

semester 1 vocabulary

Sine Wave

a waveform that represents periodic oscillations

Sine Wave Example

Cosine Wave

basically a sine wave but each point occurs exactly ¼ cycle earlier

Cosine Wave Example

Exponential Function

A function that determines if something will increase or decrease

ƒ(x) = b^x or ƒ(x) = a

Logistic Function

Basically an exponential function but with a domain, range, and carrying capacity (K)

basically an Exponential Function with a limit

Exponential Function Base

The variable is the exponent, Base must always be positive { e^k-x }

f(x) = b^k(x)

Irrational Root Theorem

:)

Multiplicity

The number of times a certain factor occurs

Imaginary Root Theorem

:)

Rational Zeros Theorem

Long Division

arithmetical division in which the divisor has two or more figures

Synthetic Division

Synthetic division is a shorthand, or shortcut, method of polynomial division when dividing by a linear factor

Remainder Theorem

if f(x) is a polynomial in x then the remainder on dividing f(x) by x − a is f(a)

The Natural Log Function

the inverse function of the exponential function

y=tan(x)

y=cot(x)

y=sec(x)

y=csc(x)
