Social Media

An increasingly major addi(c)tion in our lives
We chose this topic for several reasons. As a millennial generation, we have witnessed the exponential growth of technology and social media in our lives and have taken the initiative to make it our own. Unfortunately, not everyone was able to jump on the bandwagon fast enough. In making this video, we hope to show that anyone can use the three major social media outlets, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, and the netiquette norms that come with them.

Audience

Our primary audience are people not on social media and those who have it but don’t use it. The age can varies from young to old. We assume that this audience have social media accounts already but are uncomfortable using it. Our secondary audience includes our English 149 Tech Writing class and our professor.

Credibility

Our group is composed of different people who came together to create a list of netiquette norms (which can be hard to pin down). Since we all have social media accounts (and have had them for some time), we are well aware of how people on the net operate.

Rhetorical Devices

Simplistic Language

All of our scripted words use basic language so that audiences of all ages can understand. Our simplistic language consequently utilizes logos, using a logical, simplistic method to explain to our various audience. This also establishes ethos, because our credibility as instructors goes up as we break down difficult to understand terms and phrases.

Humour

Gertrude’s humorous attempts at trying to figure out social media on her own uses pathos to make the video more lighthearted. We want people to feel that although using social media the proper way should be taken seriously, the actual learning process can be fun. This also establishes our credibility. We wouldn’t be making jokes about the various uses of social media if we did not know how to use it.

Layout

The layout of our video was different than most. Instead of showing a computer screen the whole time, we switched it up and inserted potential scenarios that the reader might have experienced. Logically, this was the best design: not only does it keep our viewers interested in the content, it makes our video original.

Music Choice

When choosing our music, we had to consider our audience as well as the content of the video. Consequently, we chose music with a jazzier feel to it. It’s relaxing tone creates a comfortable environment for the viewer and eases some of the stress that can come with learning the ways of social media, therefore establishing pathos.
