MICHAEL WAS BORN ON MAY.28,1986 IN MEMPHIS TENNESSEE. HE WAS 1 OF THE 12 PEOPLE BORN IN HIS FAMILY. OHER CAME FROM A BROKEN HOME, A SON OF A CRACK-ADDICTED MOTHER AND
AN ABSENT FATHER.

The odds were not with Michael oher. Poverty, foster care, spotty school attendance, and living in an unsafe environment with a frequently absent mother. He went to 11 different schools in 9 years and often cut class.
Ohers grades were disastrous . By 9th grade his grade point average was .06. He was on the road to dropping out. His success story started when he was 11, and he turned away from drugs and gangs.

In junior year, Michael started to excel in football to get his mind off of the things that were happening at home. His coaches started to become curious since Oher rarely went to the same home after games. He began to stay at the Tuohys.

"There will be millions of people watching the Super Bowl XLVll who aren't big football fans. But many of them will probably know Oher. They just don't know him like they think they do."

He says, "I want my story to reach more than 500,000 American children in foster care, and the millions more living in homes where dreams never come true because of poverty, crime, drugs, and disparity."
