JUNO: THE MISSION TO JUPITER

PURPOSE & GOALS

  • They want to find out more general information about Jupiter
  • Wanna find out how much water is on the planet
  • Study the atmosphere and magnetosphere

THE OUTCOME

  • So far that found out that there are such called “cloud tops” on the surface

THE SPACECRAFT

  • This probe is in a wind mill shape
  • It has a laser like light scanning for data
  • It rotates in a circular formation

Crew
There wasn’t a lot of crew, but there was Ed Hirst who created Juno. Along with other astronauts. They also put these three LEGO figures on the spacecraft, they represented gods/goddesses.

DATES

  • Juno launched on Friday August 5, 2011
  • Juno arrived at Jupiter on Monday July 4, 2016
  • Data came back to NASA on Tuesday October 31, 2016
  • Juno continues to study Jupiter

OTHER INFORMATION

  • The latest fly by or Jupiter was Saturday, December 16
  • Juno is not the first spacecraft to Jupiter, but it will go in the closet
  • Earths radiation is a third of a rad, on Jupiter it’s 20,000,000 rad

  • Know one knows what will happen
  • Juno comes from a Greek goddess
  • On Jupiter, there is the “ big red dot” This is the biggest, and strongest storm in space. It is bigger than earth by a lot.
