The Modernization of Japan

Facts

• In 1637 the Japanese were banned from overseas travel and closed to foreigners.
• there were some positives of the isolation. The Japanese economy grew, and farming output grew and cities grew.

Negatives of Isolation.

• The people could not bay there expences because the lords had there money in the land.
• The Samara no longer had to fight and didn't have enough money to live as good as merchants.
• The merchants had money but no power. peasants had a lot of taxes to pay.

• The isolation lasted 250 years.
