By the end of 1914, nearly 6,250 miles of trenches constructed in Europe.
By the war's end, each side had dug at least 12,000 miles of trenches.
Front-line Trench
- Used for firing/attacking
- 50 yards-1 mile from enemy front-line trench
Support Trench
- Several hundred yards b/h FL trench
- Men & supplies assist FL trench
- "Secondary Trench"
Reserve Trench
- Several hundred yards b/h Support trench
- Men & supplies available in emergencies
Communication Trench
- Movement of messages, supplies, men
