4 Types of Trenches

Front-line Trench

  • Used for firing/attacking
  • 50 yards-1 mile from enemy front-line trench

Support Trench

  • Several hundred yards b/h FL trench
  • Men & supplies assist FL trench
  • "Secondary Trench"

Reserve Trench

  • Several hundred yards b/h Support trench
  • Men & supplies available in emergencies

Communication Trench

  • Movement of messages, supplies, men
  • Some underground connections
