MODEL

  • A model is a mentally visual way of linking theories.
  • Something that is important to consider would be that the model is the IDEA and the graphs, drawings, equations, physical mockups are the REPRESENTATION of the model or idea.

Purpose of a model

  • Provides a way of explaining data
  • Provides a way of testing a hypothesis
  • Lead scientists to ask questions

Types of models

  • There are 4 types of models.scale, analogues, mathematical and theatrical.

How models develop students’ thinking?

  • Discourse is anchored in norms of argumentation that reflect scientific practice
  • For example, when using the scientific formula students are following a model that guides them through the process.
