CALCULUS

AP Calculus and College Credit

  • Equivalent to a semester/two semesters of college credits.
  • Students can earn up from 4-8 credits in universities.
  • Students scoring 4 or 5 on collegeboard exam will earn 3 - 6 college credits in Georgia and Georgia Tech.

Content Material

  • AB course covers topics in concepts and skills of Limits, Derivatives, Definite Integrals, and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus
  • BC Calculus will cover AB course material as well as cover additional topics, including Infinite Series, Polar Equations, and Parametric Equations.

Prerequisite

  • A good understanding of Pre-Calculus is a must.
  • AB Calculus is NOT a pre-requisite for BC.

Why take AP Calculus?

  • It can set your transcript apart from other college applicants', allowing access to top schools.
  • It is foundational to large parts of higher math.
  • It is essential in our daily lives, from designing buildings, predicting weather patterns, and to understanding the spread of diseases.

  • Computer Science
  • Physics
  • Many more that require Calculus in University.

How much work do I have to do?

  • Plan on spending 3 hours weekly studying for AB Calculus and practicing.
  • Plan on 4-5 hours weekly on BC practice if you plan on getting 4 or 5 in the AP exam.

Each Chapter Typically Includes:

  • • Guided Notes • Class activities • Homework Practice • 1-2 Quizzes • Chapter Test (50% multiple choice / 50% free response graded on AP Scale, same as actual collegeboard test, part with Calculator and part without)
  • Ti-84 Plus is a must

Exam Dates

  • Monday May 13th Collegeboard test AB and BC
  • The exam is two parts, multiple Choice 1 hour and 45 minutes minutes and Free Response 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  • Each section is split into two parts one with Calculator and the other without a calculator.
