  • The US wanted to work with China for economic reasons because the British refused to work or deal with the Americans. China is a huge nation that is rich in resources and offered America a potential market for Americas goods.

  • At the time China was not very strong in a way you can say they got pushed around. If China needed help in fights they would get other countries to help them. In return China let other countries take control of some areas of trading rights. And we fought against that. We wanted Free trade
