ST. FRANCIS SERAPH SOUP KITCHEN

MISSION STATEMENT

  • Empower, nourish, and collaborate
  • Every person has the right to enjoy benefits of good health, prosperity and well-being

ISSUE ADDRESSED

  • Feeding those who are unable to afford meals or cannot not get enough food for themselves or their families

HOW IT'S ADDRESSED

  • Offering hospitality and a hearty meal for each person that comes in
  • Breakfast, lunch, dinner- 3 days a week
  • Over 27,000 meals served in the past year

POPULATION/NUMBERS

  • More than 100 a day
  • Over 2,000 meals per month
  • Over time more than 600 day laborers are welcomed, whose pay can be as little as $35 for a 10 hr day

HISTORY

  • Oldest soup kitchen in the city
  • They are a sponsored ministry of the Province of St. John the Baptist of the Order of the Franciscans

REASON I CHOSE

  • Focused on working to nourish and nurture body, mind and spirit in Over-the-Rhine.
  • Good location
  • Doesn't matter what day, many people come in each day to be served

LEVEL OF NEED

  • Unloading donated items
  • Serving food, meal preparation, washing dishes etc.
  • Delivering bagged lunches

IMPACT OF WORK

  • Serving those who live in the same area
  • Not everyone can be as fortunate to have meals as everyday
