  • "The Endangered Species Act of 1973 (ESA) was signed on December 28, 1973, and provides for the conservation of species that are endangered or threatened throughout all or a significant portion of their range, and the conservation of the ecosystems on which they depend"

ENDANGERED VS THREATENED

  • Endangered- Are species that are in danger of becoming extinct
  • Threatened- any species that is likely to become endangered and then extinct
  • Endangered animals are animals that are in danger of becoming extinct now, and threatened are in danger of becoming extinct in the near future .

SUMATRAN ELEPHANT

  • Conservation status- Critically endangered
  • Why the animals are Endangered- These elephants are endangered because of deforestation of there habitat, and human poaching for their ivory tusks. Due to the deforestation theses elephants have crossed ways with human-settlements. They raid the crops, destroy houses, and in some cases hurt or kill people, because of this people have resorted to shooting or poisoning these elephants.
  • WWF- is an organization that is trying to persevere these animals by limiting human-animal interaction with them. there trying to stop poaching, trading, or the deforestation of the Anika's habitat. This organization has programs where you can adopt a elephant or Go fund a ranger that's helping the elephants.
  • Benfit- They help contribute to a healthy forest ecosystem
