By taking a musical piece entitled, "Fireworks", from "Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix, this
makes this an example of a technology extension, called "pop culture remix". "Pop Culture Remix" blends sounds (music) to provide students another avenue for expressing their ideas and making insights, p. 186-187

What images, as you listen, does this piece of music invoke?
I chose this intervention because I love using music to infuse into many different focused learning activities with "feel and flow". p.178. The music, from Harry Potter, can be played by clicking on the "film projector" icon on the left side of the screen.

2. Sketch to Sketch

A transmediation strategy that students can use to sketch what they thought the picture or story meant. p. 176

I love this creative strategy that helps students express themselves through art. As in this story, we see how it unlocked language barriers and feelings for Hassan from Somalia.

3. Sketchbook

Using a sketchbook, is a great idea for students!
They can see and share their entries, "visual as well as written", and their progress over time.

Plus, I love the idea of the"Sketchbook" for an Assessment, too!, p. 187. I feel this is a thorough review of a student's coursework over the school year.

4. Process Drama

"Invites the student to use drama to make meaning of a text", p. 180.
Process drama can be used with readers of all ages, as well as, helps students "dig deeply".

The "art of drama", is part of the transmeditional process, p.175.

This is another great tool to use as I study "moving between" the arts to use to enhance literacy for students.

5. Soundscapes

"Last Stop On Market Street", by Matt de la Pena, has several strategies that you can do with Process Drama. I chose to use "Soundscapes" .

I feel using the strategy of "Soundscapes" while riding on the bus trip can be an interesting activity. Sound examples could be the sounds of the people on the bus and city noises from open bus windows. Then after arriving at the food pantry; its noises, people sounds and smells.

Please click on the "JH" icon on the left side of the screen or press play button to hear "city noises".

6. A "Tableau", p. 180

Using the book, " Fox" by Margaret Wild,

I took some personal "frozen" pictures. Student could try "becoming one of the people in the photo". Which person looks like the Fox, Dog and Bird? The next slide has more questions to help.

I like this very insightful student activity because it helps students begin to process empathy and be more aware of their body actions and their own feelings.

What "Title" would you give this "Tableau"?

  • What do you see? Setting?
  • What are the people doing?
  • How old are they?
  • Are they related?
  • How are they feeling?
  • Are you "digging deeply"?, p.181

7. Student in a Role

This involves the student becoming a character in the story; then portraying their actions and speaking voice, p. 181

I really believe "Student in a Role" is an enjoyable activity for students.
It can get them "thinking deeply".

I also think that "Teacher in a Role" can "model" for the student how to do this activity.

8. Technology

Using technology will help me enhance my literacy practices, p.186.

"Tech for Teaching and Learning" was critical in helping me prepare for this "transmediational" goal, "taking action", p. 175

9. Haiku Deck

Helps you create amazing presentations! You can upload things,as well as, make videos or just record.
Haiku deck downloads as a PowerPoint presentation.
My tech course required using Haiku Deck for an assignment and that is how I learned how to use it.

10. Voicethread

Voicethread is another platform I was required to use for my technology class.
You can record videos as well as upload your slides to narrate.
Fellow students can then comment and discussions can occur.
I like Voicethread because it is compatible with many other programs and easily to share and upload.
I will use Voicethread to upload

11. I - Statements

The I- Statement chart shows various perspectives of chosen characters in a story, p.183

I like "I-Statements" because they help the student "dig deeply" to connect with a character and their feelings. I will be using "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix"

12. Text Sets

One use for text sets would be compiling books with a sociopolitical context. p. 183. If used with this theme, text sets can inspire social action, using the "arts" to advocate and "take action", p.177.

This text set has examples of artists and authors who took "action". Their books and artwork helped bring about changes environmentally and socially.

I will also use this text set for my Grad project.

13. Picture This

This is a "picture this" example of my "student", aka, my client...

I chose this is as an example of a "student", aka, my client, involved in watching a woodworker at Conner Prairie. I felt this could be a "strategy where the student then writes about their total experience in that picture on the day that it was taken", p.187

I like this strategy to use with students because using actual photos can help inspire interest to choose one of their own photos or one from a collection to use. Then, hopefully, the student could be more willing to write about what they see and feel, as well as, "think deeply."
