PRESENTATION OUTLINE

The starry end

stars become either a white dwarf, a neutron, or a black whole

no red dwarfs have become white dwarfs

because red dwarfs take so long to consume their fuel

white dwarfs

are commonly found in binary systems as well as clusters

once the star reaches its final size

it no longer has any fuel to burn

but because it used to be a star core

it is still very hot and has a small luminosity

white dwarves cool in 2 ways

radiative cooling and neutrino cooling

radiative cooling

is when the star radiates its excess heat into space

neutrino cooling

gamma rays pass near electrons and produce neutrinos which leave fast

neutron stars

the smallest and denses stars in the known universe

neutron stars are the leftovers

of giant stars that exploded as a supernova

magnetic fields

magnetic fields between 10^8 and 10^15

gravitational field

2x10^11 times stronger than on earth

black holes

only extremely massive stars become black holes

neutron stars can become black holes

if they are in a binary system and take mass from other stars

gravity is so strong

when the star collapses, that nothing can stop it

black whole gravity

is so strong that even light cant escape

the mass becomes so dense

that it occupies zero space and creates a singularity

everything that is sucked in

becomes part of the singularity's mass and is compressed within
