POPULATION OF COUNTRY AS WELL AS MAJOR CITIES

  • 21.47 million people(in 2013) live in angola.
  • The top 7 cities in angola include: luanda, ndalatanda, huambo, lobito, benguela,kuito, and lubango.

ETHNICITIES FOUND THE COUNTRY.

  • 37% ovimbundu- member in either of two peoples of western angola. (Distinguished as ovimbundu and mbundu)
  • 25% kimbundu- either of the Bantu languages of the Mbundu, often distinguished as Umbundu(related to Herero) and Kimbundu (related to Kikongo)

  • 13% Bakongo- referred to as the congolese, are a bantu ethnic group who live along the atlantic coast of Africa from pointe-Noire to Luanda, Angola.
  • 2% Mestico- mixed African and European.
  • 1% European- Characteristic of Europe or its Inhabitants.

WARS ANGOLA WAS IN.

  • Feb.4th 1961- portuguese colony of angola fighting Erupted as 3-anti-colonial Guerilla movements battled for independence.
  • Oct. 23, 1975 battle between cuban and south africa troops took place in angola.
  • Nov.11, 1975- Angola proclaimed independence from Portugal civil war began following the 14-year-fight for idependence.

  • A day in september in 2004, Oil production reaches ne million barrels per day. This month in Angolan history was significant because they have the second largest oil producer in Africa.

  • The current land area is 1,248 sq km.

AGRICULTURE

  • Angola had a tradition of family based farming and was self-sufficient in all major food crops except wheat. They exported coffee, maize, and other crops such as sisal, bananas, cassava, and tobacco.
